I'm a big fan of nylon. I've used them to hand wash all my detail shop cars since the 80's and have never had an issue with a nylon wash brush. I'm not sure why boar's hair ever became popular in SS washing. If a nylon brush is adequate for the nicest cars I clean in New England at my detail...
20 years ago I built my wash and installed a Champion Centurion II. I still consider it one of the best pieces of equipment I own today. I change the oil and filter once a year. I've never even changed the belt. it needed exactly one repair in that time. The copper tubing that connects the...

keep the price high enough to allow for xtra cleanup once in awhile. I see way too many operators selling an awesome product/service/experience at a price from 1989, thinking they can't go up. Nonsense.
most of my abusers come after hours when staff has gone home. i'm not gonna waste my energy...
i've had a ww razor for 3 years and i love it. I think I replaced one set of photo eyes, the announcement speaker and one high pressure hose in that time. my distributor is awesome and they have been able to help me with any little issues. I can't really speak to other brands because I don't...
Yes I was shocked when I replaced my speaker after about a year and a half. I tried to take it apart and investigate it but it seemed impossible to get apart as I recall. I would've had to destroy it I think to see what was inside. I just bit the bullet and ordered a new one because I love the...
I used to use a mix of Simoniz correct powder and Simoniz foam additive in my old inbay automatic. Show was 'meh'. The cleaning power was pretty good and the cost per drum was really good but I had to dump so much product on that I was constantly mixing up new batches of soap and I really don't...
I had two customers who were friends and would wash a lot of cars through my car wash so I gave them a discount on buying tokens in bulk. One day I saw one of these gentlemen with a huge excavator on a trailer leaving the bay. The next time they came in for a discount on tokens I told him there...
I have had similar damage happen at my wash. Since installing my razor three years ago I put up a solidly built clearance arch ahead of the bay. The best thing I ever did was mount a good Lorex camera right on the top. When people smash it down I get their vehicle with the plate number and I...
I agree. The bbb likes to try and present themselves as some government agency when in reality they are a private business totally separate from any government entity.
A customer with a car we detailed has lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they contacted me. Seems like a waste of time, but I gave them a reply in writing. Customer was having an issue with the radio controls on his steering wheel after a detail. He mentioned the complaint...
What does your distributor say? That's the first person I'd ask if my wash started to do something like this. Well actually, they're the second because I'd ask my friend Eric first.
One idea that I have seen work very well is to offer some extra incentive as a part of the pay package. An incentive based on revenue or a share in ownership can be the extra motivation for someone to think more long-term about a position working at a car wash or detailing business.
