I have never seen this before on a 530 cat pump, where the plunger rod is discolored like that, it was a little difficult to get the plunger off, where as they usually just slide right off.
The plunger retainer o-ring and backup ring were in good shape, but it is obvious it looks like water was...
Check your hp, lp seals, your oil looks a little milky, could be water in the crankcase, bad seals can cause that, and also wouldn't allow you to adjust your pressure higher, check the valves also.

The seals in the pump head, looks like a 310 or 530 cat pump, go to catpumps.com, service and training if you never changed them before. Also check the head for cavitation.

I have a parkrimp 1, and a hose cutoff machine since 2000, always kept 500ft of 3/8 hp hose around also. I think that setup cost around $3500.00 back then, probably double that now. Also use the pushlock assembly tool thats...
And they are very heavy for low pressure hose that you would use for the foam brush, it's way overkill.

I use the dema 0473P.3 and have had it stick both open and closed, it is mounted vertically though, and I believe they are supposed to be mounted horizontally only.
