Some DIY Innovation for my IBA Dryers

One other thought: What about an 8 or 10 inch diameter PVC pipe with a 1 inch slit cut into its length. This could be mounted vertically on each side of the vehicle and attached either directly or via hose to the generator. It would not be an elephant ear, but would extend drying down the...

Some DIY Innovation for my IBA Dryers

I would think a home brewed elephant ear would be made easiest with some sort of bag or fabric - kind of like the Protovest Stripper Dryers. Dryer hose connecting the generator to your elephant ear, or the generator connected directly to the top/bottom of the ear. Molded plastic or stainless...

    chemical fragerance and color

The only thing I use that is scented is the drying agent and sealer. These products are the last to be applied to the car and the smell generally "sticks" to the vehicle. My customers can still smell the sealer on the car when they have left the wash. Some are better at lasting than others...

    What Would You Do?

Perfect example. If the $10 wash was $9, you would probably have well over 51%. I'm not suggesting that for IBFLYIN - I never recommend a price decrease. Just pointing that out to the original poster who might only be separating his top two packages by $1 instead of $2. I'm glad to see...

    What Would You Do?

I always try to leverage my good/better/best packages to make it difficult for the customer to justify buying the middle package. Example: 1.Basic wash $6 2.Middle package $8- add one extra service - maybe a sealer or underspray 3.Top wash - $9 - adds two or three more extra services - tri...

    meeting with an architect

Way too many things to address here in a post like this, but think long and hard about using an architectual firm that has never done a car wash. I'm not saying they cannot do it, but if you want them to think outside the box, they need to know what the box is first. Also, would you pick an...

    New floor!!!!

Looks great, Diamond - very nice. Hard to tell from the pictures, but did you go around the equipment legs and arches, or do they sit on top of the new floor? Good work. Thanks for posting the pictures. Mike

    Brand recognition - funny story

I like some of your names, Steve. I know a guy who uses just a regular colored foam polish product and calls it "Magic Foam Wax Treatment." Mike

    Brand recognition - funny story

I'm not sure how widespread this is, but his comment did make me think about it. I'm, guessing the brands have plenty of appeal in the stores, but some customers might be expecting something else from a professional establishment - I don't know. Probably depends on how discriminating/conscious...

    Brand recognition - funny story

I was at one of my washes the other day. Whenever I am there, I mingle with the customers, ask them how they like the wash - ask if there is anything they would like to see improved etc. I was chatting with one guy and he saw me toting along a few empty Simoniz 5 gallon pails. He said...

    Spot Free Rinse

I see you are in New York state - where? I'm outside of Buffalo. If you want, you can PM me. I know a guy who does what you are looking to do - a no wipe exterior, and he is doing well with it. Mike

    Does Touchless Clean?

Ditto on the "how clean is clean" comment. My measure would be a white cloth test on the side or hood of a vehicle - basically any area that should be easily reached by your equipment, be it touch or touchless. If you wipe one of those areas, are you getting film on the cloth? Some will say...

    Cars Bump - Handle how

It is not hard to prove low tire pressure- just check it, but it is hard to prove that was the cause. It might depend on how low it is, if it is 5 psi or so, that might be pretty tough. However, if it 10 psi, that is a better argument. This is off topic, but I assume car bump issues do not...

    magic wand 2000

Isn't Magic Wand still in business? Even if the machine is no longer manufactured, they should know of suppliers with parts.

    Simply "Sign this blank page"

Unbelievable - especially since apparently other people have signed blank pages. Ask her to take out a personal check, sign it and leave it with you.

    Flash Drying

I understand this might not be feasible to do now with a new tunnel, but I would think you would want the high pressure at the beginning of the tunnel. That is where it will do what it does best - after the presoak and before the friction part of the wash. You also wouldn't have the misting...

    Custom Bubbler

Very nice work, Earl. Is that regular detergent going on with the bubbler? With that top brush followed by an AVW mitter, you must get very good horizontal surface cleaning. What is the lineup of equipment for the rest of the tunnel? Mike

    Foam the soap or not.

I was not clear in my earlier post. While I do supply the material with a soap solution, it is not foamed. I think I said "soapy" water, but it certainly is not foamed. To the eye, it looks like it is just water going to the material. I would not recommend applying foamed soap to cloth -...
