Is it touchless or friction? If friction, I would install six at the entrance for just for inspection. If touchless, you could just have two in the bay, one on pay station, one on exit. Is this a stand alone wash or are there self serve bays? You may want additional cameras at different angles for the property and one inside the equipment room. For me, I would say a minimum of 9 total.

Friction, it's a standalone wash

You will probably have a decent amount of damage claims because you have a friction wash. So far, my experience has been that about 90% or more of them didn't happen at our wash and the issue was already there. The rest of them are older cars that we delete a small part from like emblems. We do have a minor issue every once in a while deleting wipers. Sometimes it's because they leave them on during the wash but sometimes our mitters pull them up and/or off. You need to prove all this so you should have a lot of cameras. We have 12 dedicated to machine function, pre inspection, and post inspection. We are going to add 2 more pre inspection cameras and probably 4 more in the bay. We do have a 65' long building with 5 arches and a tire shiner so we have a lot going on compared to a normal IBA.

The more cameras the better, but on my friction IBA I have two cameras diagonally opposed inside the bay. The most important thing I'm trying to establish is if the car jumped the rails, which in my case is by far the biggest reason that any damage is going to occur to a vehicle.
