Cat 3535

Bricks

So for the third time in the last month, a low pressure seal popped out and the pump room flooded. I have never rebuilt a 3535. Took the head off and was going to swap it with one of the three used spares I have and only one of the plungers came off. I tried to get a pipe wrench to bite on it, but no go. Can someone recommend a rebuild kit or process so I can get that bay going again (HydroSpray). Can the rods that the ceramic plungers are on bend?

You can always call Cat if you have questions before you dive into it.
I put a different head on it. So on Christmas Day 2022 I had a line freeze up in the attic. I just bought the wash in June of 2022. The low pressure seals had popped out of the back of the head. I beat them back in and spent five hours in the attic thawing things out. Since then, it ran for two years and one popped out again.
Today, when I took the head off an old pump, I discovered wicks and plastic things… I went oh yeah these might keep the low pressure seals from popping out of the back. So the last guy to rebuild it didn’t put retainers in. I don’t know what the heck kept them held in all this time.

Been there done that. Best thing to use to thaw out lines is hot water. If it it ever happens again then take garden hose in the attic and spray down the trough. You'll be unthawed in less than 30 minutes. Assuming you have hot water on site.
