Yeah, its tough to get pictures that can really confirm whats going on with something like this. Not seeing any defect, but we would be happy to look at it here to get a more detailed review of the pump.

Can we get any pics of the retainer/inside of the plunger? Be interested to see what those look like.

For the most part, any oil will help. We typically recommend our Cat Pump oil just because most people have it for the pumps anyway. As far as if its required, generally it will help the life of the seals, should give you extended life. But if you don't oil that area, you get what I would call...

Not familiar with Chevron GST ISO 100. But Cat oil is a multi grade ISO 68.

If not using Cat oil, we recommend a non-detergent 30W hydraulic oil.. equivalent to a ISO 68.
