A local guy upgraded to the Dixmor DX-2000 displays and added a loop plate in the floor. If a customer spends $5 or more, the time is doubled. The time is cancelled when they leave the bay - he says most people don't use up all the time. It's improved his cash income quite a bit.

We have dixmor's DX-2002's for at least over 8 years or whenever Dixmor brought them out. The 2000's are probably long gone. It's simple to program with your own message and once you've programmed the first one, you just move the programming key to the next timer.
Ours are mounted high in the bay and they are very visible day or night from the street.
Price is $2.00 for 4 minutes, $5.00 for 15 minutes and no loop detectors.
In the years that we have had them We've only had to send in a couple of them and we've got 25 bays of SS.

That's what I meant, he does have the DX-2002's interfaced with his Hamilton D.A.N. credit card system.
The guy I mentioned is at $1.50 start-up and you get a total of 24 minutes if you deposit a $5 bill. He's seen people try to "cheat" it by riding the bumper of the car leaving the bay, but it doesn't work.

My idea / thoughts behind this are to raise the price when I re-open my wash after a remodel without it being so obvious.
The wash has been $1 start for years.
I want to keep the $1 start but really raise the price per min.
For people spending $3,4,5, offer a graduated lowering of the price/min
To create the perception of a " Deal " even though the price has been raised
For all $ spent.

You'd be surprised how easily customers will get past a price increase if they're getting good service, especially if you've made equipment upgrades. My advice would be to just raise it and not worry about it - in a month you'll only wonder why you didn't raise the price sooner.
The only timer that I know of that can do incremental increases is something called the Bay Commander, which may not be available anymore. It had potential, but it was delivered to us to in a non-working state. After two months of trying to get it to work, it ended up getting ripped out and sent back.
