Hey Guys,

I recently installed an in-bay automatic and would like to be able to shut the wash down at night when it gets super cold.

I was told there is the ability to add a relay switch to my Hamilton Goldline that allows me to shut it off from my phone.

I called them, and they weren’t much help. Does anyone else use one of these? Any advice or purchase links?

thanks!

You can use a smart plug of your choice and "plug" the main power of the gold line into that. Its pretty simple, may just have to add receptacles and plugs to your wiring if it is currently hard wired. There are many smart plugs and relays to choose from on Amazon and any other major retailer

You need a smart plug and a relay. You need to wire the pay station normally closed on the relay. When you give power to the smart plug that will activate the relay and turn the power off to the pay station.

The reason you do that is because smart plugs default setting when you lose WiFi or power is OFF. In either of those cases the relay keeps you up and running. The machine is only tuned off when you activate the smart plug and relay. Otherwise it’s business as usual.

Yolink has a lot of inexpensive relays, smart plugs, and sensors. You can do pretty much anything you need to do with those and a little ingenuity. I believe their smart plugs will stay in whatever state they are in if you lose WiFi.
My hack was to buy an extension cord and cut it in half. I then attached the female end to the breaker and the male end to the line going to the cashier. I inserted a smart plug in between. Yes, it looks like crap and it’s not code-compliant. They do sell relays so if you want to do it a more proper way you could.
one advantage of Yolink and other home automation over simple smart relays is the built in automation ability. For example, when a temperature hits a certain point, I can start an antifreeze system, shut down a cashier, and send an email or push notification to my phone with just a couple of simple commands that Yolink app is capable of. They also have water detectors, door open detectors, Vibration detectors, etc

What kind of car wash did you install. Wash World and PDQ can both be setup to close the bay automatically at a set time. They will both close the Paystation when they do.

What time do you close Waxman? We wash a decent number of cars between 10pm and 6am sometimes.

My neighbors complained about the noise from the speaker on my new razor. The building inspector came by and asked me to turn the speaker down. While he was there he mentioned that he looked up my special permit from when I open the car wash in 2006. The special permit listed the operating hours as 7 AM to 9 PM! Keep in mind that at that point I had been running 24 hours a day from 2006 until last year!

After several meetings of the planning board and creating a 100 page report including a sound study that I did myself, the planning board voted that I could keep the car wash open 24 hours a day but that I had to close the automatic between the hours of 11 PM and 6 AM. I was OK with that ultimately because I don't wash too many cars between those hours and I figure anyone who doesn't get to come then will come after I open in the morning. The meeting got quite contentious with the planning board giving ample time and leeway to my critical neighbors, entertaining every silly complaint that they had. all of a sudden the blowers were too loud, the vacuums were too loud, the fact that we beep the horn when we back cars into the detail shop for safety reasons was too loud etc. they were asking me to install a retractable gate, extend the building out further beyond the blowers, etc. so I felt that restricting the hours somewhat on the automatic only was a decent compromise.

Check eBay for "Denkovi" USB relay.

I installed this alongside my PC:

USB Four(4) Relay Module,Board for Home Automation - ver.2 | eBay

The relay board is wired to my Automatic wash machine to "reset", as well as toggle the highest wash.

I access my PC remotely (via home PC or even my Android phone), and can reset the auto, as well a give a "free" wash when needed.

This has saved me numerous trips to the wash.

On the rare occasion that I get a customer's call , "Your machine stole my $10 bill", I reset the machine, toggle in a fresh wash....and customer leaves happy.

The Denkovi is relatively cheap, but I've got years, and years of reliable service from it. (I've got NO association, apart from being a satisfied customer).
