Has anyone painted their blower impellers? If so, what type of paint did you use? Did you clean the impeller before painting? We are thinking about using a sand blaster to clean our impellers before painting them. We then plan on attempting to balance them with a wheel balancer to address excessive vibration. Trying to get an idea if anyone has done this in house before....

I do not know how you would balance the impeller yourself, but we have sand blasted and rebalanced at a machine shop many impellers after they started to vibrate. Several motor shafts were fractured before we realized they were out of balance. The choice of paint was not a concern, balancing was.

We planned to balance the impellers on a wheel balancer similar to how you would balance a wheel for a vehicle. We have an automotive repair facility on site here and were planning on sand blasting them to clean them and then attempting to balance. Do you know how the impellers were balanced at the machine shop? Was it a static balance or a dynamic balance?

The impellers were dynamically balanced at the machine shop. Had to call around to find one that could do it. What a difference it made.

JimmyJaffa, just out of curiosity, do you know the name of the machine shop you used to perform the balancing of the impellers? Do you remember how much it cost you?

Just wanted to let everyone know that it worked out perfectly for us and our blowers are completely vibration free. This is what we did:

1. Sandblast blower impeller
2. Balance impeller on a wheel balancer that is used in an automotive repair shop to balance car tires (welded on wheel weights)
3. Had impellers zinc plated at a metal finishing shop

The total cost for us was $289 for 4 implellers (We already had a sand blaster and we have an on site automotive repair shop with a wheel balancer).
