I'm thinking of adding a tankless for a hot rinse, especially during the winter to melt snow and ice. But how does the water stay hot in a holding tank? I was thinking it had to go directly to the water supply that also runs through the hydrominders.

It stays hot for a while, longer if you insulate it. You can also put an electric immersion heater in the tank to keep it hot between customers.

The electric immersion heaters was another solution I am considering. But if I had one would I even need the water heater?

Yes, an immersion heater is very costly to run and still won't do a good job of heating the water. It's only able to maintain it hot.

Yes so mine is fed directly to a main line feed, and my hydro minders split off of the hot water line. I also have a general wash bay holding tank as well. heaters are set to 135 and kick on almost instantly as water starts getting pulled from the holding tank. (holding tank is only 10 gals maybe?) thus far as soon as flow hits it heats up the tank. it will also start to heat when my weeps kick on. you can also set up a re circulation line if you wanted to on a timer to kick on and re heat the water but then your eliminating the reason to have an on demand heater. the whole point for me was to still have hot water without heating a bunch all the time. it runs no different then having that huge hunk of junk. water will cool when just sitting either way but it will heat back up rapidly when in use.

i also took out my tank heaters because they are expensive to run as well. (again trying to cut costs but still giving the same great product) the two heaters dual feeding the hot water for me is key, they kick on at the same time and heat at the same time as well so there's no real dwell time with them either. obviously after this winter ill have more of a idea if i need to increase anything but after alot of research and testing im 99.9% positive ill have the same heat output as with the big boiler.

Do you use these for bays and floor heat or just bays?

SS bays only, i have a seperate boiler for the floor/trough heat. i highly reccomend not doing the combo set ups because if ones down they are both down, another local wash here has that and it breaks more then its actually running.
